I recently wrote a post about QR Codes and as someone familiar with these codes I’m often asked whats the best reader app to download to my smartphone to read these codes. I’ve tested a number of these apps and the best I’ve used by far (so far) is i-nigma by 3GVision. If you want to try it out for yourself, you can download this app for IOS, Android, or Blackberry at the following link: Enjoy!

Full disclosure: I was not paid or asked to put up this recommendation for this app by this vendor or any entity related to this vendor. I just really like it; however, I do not assume any liability if you choose to use it. There are a number of good qr readers out there which you can research for yourself or click here.

QR Codes – Bringing the Online Experience Into the Store

October 3rd, 2011 1 comment

I recently gave a presentation to a Retail Marketing class at California State University, Northridge about how online marketing influences the external environment for retailers whether or not they have an online presence. Part of this presentation had to do with trends and one of the more interesting trends I’ve been watching lately is how stores are marrying the best of the retail shopping experience with the benefits of online shopping, much like online did with store experience years ago.

Whether “brick & mortar” stores what to admit it or not their customers are utilizing online services while shopping even if they don’t have an online presence.  Recent research shows:

  • 8/10 consumers research purchases online
  • 42% research online and then buy online
  • 51% research online and then buy in-store
  • 70% of Smartphone users research while shopping in-store

With so many in-store shoppers going to their phones to get more info, why not provide them with the info they are going to get anyways while keeping your brand on the top of their mind. That’s where QR codes, those funky little bar codes that look like dots and boxes come in. With just a quick image capture from any smart phone with a camera users can be directed to a slew of online information found directly on the retailers web site or other online sources providing information such as:

  • In-Store Price Comparisons
  • Customer Reviews
  • Suggested Pairings
  • and more

Consumers get the information they are seeking to make an informed purchase and the retailer has a better chance of a sale being made on the spot.

You’ve probably noticed these little codes in magazines for awhile now but recently they have been popping up in more and more stores as retailers test the proverbial waters.

While QR codes are gaining in popularity, as this infographic from Lab42 shows, educating consumers on the benefits of QR Codes will be essential in their mainstream adoption.

A Glimps at the Future of Ecommerce Live Chat

April 12th, 2011 1 comment

As someone who works in online marketing I get to see a lot of new technologies; however, it is very rare that something appears that has the potential to change how we interact and facilitate transactions in the online space. After seeing this video I believe that 3 Live Shop has that potential. By combining mirrors, camera’s and touch screens, basically video chat with a multi-touch interface for the salesperson, 3 (Tre) has created the potential for an in-store shopping experience anywhere you have a computer. Check out the video and feel free to share your comments.
